Local Portage developer Lynn Holdings announced today that they have successfully completed the sale of the former Kmart property located at 2935 New Pinery Road on the north side of Portage to an Illinois-based retailer that plans to open the entire 86,000 square foot building this summer with a farm, home, and outdoor sporting goods store.
Lynn Holdings will rent the former Staples store at 2830 New Pinery Road to a Rockford, Illinois, business that plans to turn the entire property into an outlet furniture store, offering a variety of household furnishings.
Before an around-the-building line of customers enters Portage's new Aldi grocery store at 2941 New Pinery Road, employees and officials gather for a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Developers Richard Lynn and Tim Adamany hold the ribbon with Portage Mayor Rick Dodd and Floor manager Kennedy Angel.
Portage will get an ALDI food store, pending city approvals.
The national grocer submitted significantly advanced plans to build a new store near the old Kmart location on the city’s north side. The old Kmart building, located at 2935 New Pinery Road, will remain.
Work is underway to inject new life into the property that has been called “the old Kmart” for the better part of a year.
Local developer and Portage Common Council Alderman Richard Lynn got behind the controls of a bulldozer Friday morning in front of the property, now owned by the Lynn Holdings.
